A person or entity that collects and transports edible food from an edible food generator (donor) to a food recovery organization or other entities.

Food Recovery Organization

An entity that engages in the collection or receipt of edible food from an edible food generator (donor) and distributes that food to the public, either directly or through other entities. Including but not limited to:

  • Food banks
  • Nonprofit charitable organizations
  • Nonprofit’s charitable temporary food facilities

Steps for Compliance

Step 1:

 Establish a contract or written agreement with covered commercial edible food generators donating to you.

Step 2:

Track the quantity of edible food (in pounds) collected from each commercial edible food generator per month.

Step 3:

(Food Recovery Service) Track the quantity of excess edible food (in pounds) transported to each food recovery organization per month.

Step 4:

Document the name, address, and contact information for each food recovery organization that the service transports edible food for food recovery.
